Reflections gets underway with Woh Hup
Construction on Reflections at Keppel Bay is underway following a groundbreaking ceremony where Keppel Land announced it had awarded Woh Hup the main contract, worth about $1 billion. Woh Hup, which was founded in 1927, is currently working with Keppel Land on Marina Bay Residences, a joint-venture between the Singapore developer, Hong Kong Land and Hong Kong-based Cheung Kong (Holdings)/Hutchison Whampoa. However, the 1,129-unit Reflections at Keppel Bay, designed by American architect Daniel Libeskind, will prove a different challenge for Woh Hup due to the distinctive curved lines of the glass towers. “Reflections is definitely a unique project,” said Yong Tiam Yong (pictured on far right), Director of Woh Hup and grandson of the company’s founder Yong Yit Lin. “Due to the curved design, the most demanding aspect is assessing the amount of ‘creep’, which is deducing how gravity will affect the buildings over time. In terms of scale, we’ve worked on similar projects, but this is an innovative design, so we’re looking forward to working closely with Keppel and all the project partners.” Reflections, situated beside Caribbean at Keppel Bay, will feature six towers and 11 low-rise villa apartment blocks along a 750m shoreline facing the new Marina at Keppel Bay. Reflections is set to be completed by 2013, although Yong hinted that it could be completed ahead of schedule. Teo Soon Hoe, Senior Executive Director and Group Finance Director of Keppel Corporation, said Reflections would become a major feature in the fast-growing Sentosa-Harbourfront-Mount Faber precinct. “At Keppel Bay, we’re raising the bar to convert this prime and valuable piece of real estate into a world-class waterfront development. We’re bringing together some of the industry’s finest names and brands to lend their signature quality to our developments,” said Teo. “Woh Hup is one of Singapore’s leading construction companies and has an impressive track record, winning recognition for high-quality execution and standards, and also its commitment to safety. We’ve spared no efforts in going for the best to ensure that the waterfront residences at Reflections at Keppel Bay enjoy the highest quality in terms of fitting and fixtures, installation and features.” Miele, Hansgrohe Axor, Duravit Starck and Kaldewei are among the brand-name fittings in the Reflections apartments. The landscape architecture will be by US-based Hargreaves Associates, with lighting designed by Lighting Planner Associates of Japan. “International-brand fittings are of premium importance to the type of buyers we attract, as they have an international outlook and are looking for the best quality in every aspect of the residence,” said Augustine Tan, Keppel Land’s Director of Singapore Residential. Reflections’ first phase of 620 units sold out last year at an average of almost S$2,000psf. The second phase is expected to launch later this year. |
